yep, i got the Ubuntu Live CD (you can order and they'll send it to you for free) and in that there were many linux tools that were ported for windows like GIMP, FireFox, OpenOffice.org...

You can also try Inkscape.  Google for it.  It's not like Photoshop.  It's like Illustrator.  Creating line art with it is very simple.  Creating basic logos is very fast & easy.

But be careful, because Inkscape uses a lot of memory.  It can slow down your system.  I restart it about once an hour, just to clear out the memory and keep things going.

I tried Inkscape  and is hard to work with him if you don't have some deisgn skills. Anyway the result is fantastic ... and is able to export in svg ...

It sure has been. GIMp is great, and portable GIMP is the ultimate tool for on the fly iamge editing.
