A great feature that the Gimp has is font hinting.  When you are putting down some text, look at the options.  There's antialiasing, but also hinting.  So, aliasing all by itself gives you smooth text that is a little blurry at smaller point sizes.  But with hinting on, the text is smooth but not blurry.  This is even better than what I've seen from Corel PhotoPAINT.  I've not tried Photoshop recently.  Has anyone compared the text output of the two?

I find the Gimp text is so good that I constantly go back to it, even though I have other more powerful art programs.

The GIMP does have some great features and is great for the price, but the GUI is just awful. That is the only big weak point for it.

Yeah, they really have to work on the GUI.

I heard that there is a live version for GIMP... Not sure about it though.
