What other operating systems could I use to boot up a home theater pc besides us

I'm thinking about building a home theater pc. However, I do not want to use windows or mac as an operating system. I am looking for a standalone operating system specifically for home theater.With Windows or Mac, you have to install the home theater software and then open the program up every time I want to use the media player. I want my home theater PC to be just for media.
