How do I choose reliable web hosting and domain name?

There are tons of web hosting companies out there. There are some who'll give you a free domain and templates as part of the hosting plan but which is the best currently?

Hi,
Shorter domain names are easier to remember and far less susceptible to mistakes: for example lottary.com is easier to remember than playthenationallottaryonline.com. But there are also exceptions to this rule. A longer domain can be easier to remember by human memory than the shorter one - for example tbrea.com is a sequence of unrelated letters that is difficult to remember and type correctly. whereas, if we expand it to its long form 'TheBestRealEstateAgency.com' we are more likely to remember the domain name.
