A web crawler is a relatively simple automated program, or script, that methodically scans or "crawls" through Internet pages to create an index of the data it's looking for. Alternative names for a web crawler include web spider, web robot, bot, crawler, and automatic indexer.

A web crawler is a comparatively simple automated program, or script, that methodically scans or "crawls" through Net pages to generate an index of the knowledge it is looking for,It is also called Web spider or web robot.   They are also often called ants & web spiders. The role of web crawlers are to browse the web in a systematic manner wherein to copy the visited pages & index them for speedy searching.

Web crawler is a search engine that was designed to get the amount a little more information. The web crawler also known as the computer program was designed to provide different types of benefits to people search, primarily search engines like Yahoo, Bing, Google and others had been designed to provide a greater amount of information and knowledge of people.
