Then there would be no competition so support will drop, quality will get worse and all forums would go down in flames :p

If only one software had the best from all of them...

And one forum to rule them all.  Grin Grin

What makes you think that that would happen?

I use phpBB in almost all my sites. I installed IPB on 2 of them and now I kinda regret it. PhpBB is free and more important is very easy to skin and have the features installed. I have installed many hacks that give me the features of a paid script. Since I cannot aford paying money just to install a script (and I'm not even willing to do so) I find phpBB the best solution for me. I pride myself with some of the best looking and functioning phpBB forums out there, and I have everything I need in them. A good script if you know how to tame it.

IPB.  I started using it when you didn't have to pay.  I like the whole layout and features and I've become fairly knowledgable on it which makes things easier.  I also rely on the IPB SDK mod which is something no other forum has got covered.

What makes you think that that would happen?
Competition increases quality.
It's a basic rule of economy.
tLet's say you have a unique product. Nobody else is able to sell/make it.
Even if the quality is bad, people will still have to use your product, since you are the only one that can give it to them.
So you don't realy care about the quality because you are able to sell it anyway.

I use vBulletin and IPB. I have to say I like vBulletin a lot better. IPB's documentation is sorely lacking...  Shocked

I'm a big fan of vBulletin. Used it since the vBulletin 2.0 days and have come all the way to vB 3.6. I looked at IPB 2.1 and it was just not right for me and my visitors. Their modifications were nowhere near the quality of vBulletin.org. Also, plugins/hooks just blow all competition away. Wink

I have always been using IPB (invision power board). Although I know it's not the best and it gets hacked often but I am used to it Cheesy
