I think Mandriva or Knoppix are the most user friendly Linux distros.

In school we use Fedora Core.
But I heard Ubuntu is better.

knoppix is ok. But if you want a full distro with all applications and etc try Ubuntu. Also ubuntu have a live cd just for testing.

all distros have good things and bad things ... Smiley For a very user friendly distro try mandriva ... I think is the best in that. Ubuntu is very easy to update/upgrade without to much effort.

Try Zenwalk from http://www.zenwalk.org It is derivate from Slackware but Installation is automatic and you get great desktop system out of the box.

well zenwalk uses its onw package system called netpkg and it is great ! Software repository is updated frequently also. Check it out
