Hey all...

Tell me if you would rather use frames or no frames for websites? I hear alot of people hate frames because slower computers and systems like MsnTV are not frame friendly but I think frames are easier to use and better for a site. What is your opinion and why?

Frames are bad, very bad. I use frames for some things like admin panels where I don't have to worry about pages being indexed but that's it. Frames are not Search Engine friendly.

If you are developening an application the Frames are just perfect. If you want a website then 100% no frames

You can still optimize pages while you use frames, but it makes your life harder.  Unless you must use frames, it's better not to use them at all.  SE bots are not smart unfortunately, so you need to make adjustments on your side.

So, even if a sitemap is generated, the links in frames will not be added?

If the site is coded in such a way that crawlers can crawl pages without any problem, then you don't have to worry about that.  But this is exactly what I was mentioning about in my last post.  It's a bit cumbersome to ensure that, and you need to work twice as hard in order to get an all right result.  So ... if you must use frames for whatever reason, then I guess you can't get around, but if not, I (and probably many others) highly recommend that you not use frames.

I use DIVs and when needed IFRAMEs. I've heard that Google is pretty good at indexing frames but if you are not willing to waste all your SEO work then I would not use frames in your design.

Yes, as a matter of fact, you can use any server side scripting language.  The question is how you use it, not what scripting language you use.

I am surprised that frames are still being discussed. I stopped using them over five years ago.

I currently do not see any practicle use for frames other than to "cloak" the URL or something like that.

I have a mixed answer here: I use them in some projects and don't use them in others. IFRAME was quite a good idea 3 years ago and I still have some sites using this.
