I'm thinking about starting another forum. I have a crazy idea, hows this sound? I start the new forum (theme is a secret for now) and make a contest to get it started. I offer $1000 USD to the first person to reach 5000 posts, I have minimum standards on posts so people can't just go "yep", "uh-huh", "ok", "sure". Now I'll put out about 50000 flyers in my area to start the ball rolling and probably will start doing some advertising online after it starts to get busy. A $1000 seems like a lot to give away but I think by the time I have to actually give out the money I'll have made well over $1000 from AdSense and also other ad spots that I'll sell if the site gets a lot of traffic.

It's a good ideea. Or you can get 3 Ipod's and give them at 2000 posts at 3 users  in this way you will get more posts and more posting users Regards |

Not bad ... but i think is better to divide you reward in more pieces ... For example if a user it have 2500 posts and one it's just starting is almost shore the user with 2500 will win. So if you break your reward in manypieces and you will have the minimumn posts at 2000 then you will get 6000 posts and 3 happy user not just 1, and belive me are a lot of user what they want to win and IPOD or something like this.

No SG I haven't yet, I was saying that I think I could make that much before having to give it away.
I love the ideas for the Ipods, that's even better. I have to make this money first though before I can start the thing. And 3 prizes will bring more people for sure.
So how busy do you think the site would be with the flyers in my area and advertising on some really busy sites?
I'm wondering if I should wait until I get my own server so I'll be able to handel a large volume of posters online at once.

Probably in the rush hours you will have 20 times more people.
Just do a statistic and see how many querys are on your database per user per second (browsing and posting)

If you have a easy to remember URL, then it attracts visitors. Some of whom will start to post if it is interesting to them. |
