Originally designed to create dynamic web pages, PHP now focuses mainly on server-side scripting, and it is similar to other server-side scripting languages that provide dynamic content from a web server to a client, such as Microsoft's ASP.NET, Sun Microsystems' JavaServer Pages, and mod_perl.

According to me, ASP.NET is a very useful tool for programmers and developers as it permits them to build dynamic, rich web sites and web applications using created languages like VB and C#. One great feature of ASP.NET is Web Services. It helps that you can literally have several parts of your application on several servers all around the world.
