Why don't use Xampp ? http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

It have all included:

Apache, MySQL, PHP + PEAR, Perl, mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ssl, OpenSSL, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v3.32, JpGraph, FileZilla FTP Server, mcrypt, eAccelerator, SQLite, and WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql.

I great soloution is Abyss Web Server X1 (http://www.aprelium.com) and their PHP Package, it uses barely any ram and harddrive space, so imo its the best one to use. (Its also easy to configure)

XAMP and Yamp require very little to run.
you dont need a server machine, any old pentium 2-3 will do.

Thats what I meant.
guess I could have explained it better.
I used to run Xamp on a P3 windows 98 machine with no problems.

Usually it's installing a tray icon and from there you can restart/configure apache. Anyway I you don't do anything just put your files in the apache directory.
