You say right about the PHP. One more thing is that it is a flexible language, and some people prefer to place the PHP construct directly next to PHP code. The main benefit is that it is simple and best code to develop the web application fast and in easy way.

As I know PHP is known as a server-sided language. That's because the PHP doesn't get executed on your computer, but on the computer you requested the page from. It can perform any task that any CGI program can do.
