I had a fully working installation of previous version (demo data only - thank God).

Uninstalling and reinstalling new version gave:

Quote
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare remove_signs() (previously declared in /home/crysm/public_html/diabetesbuddies/forum/Sources/Subs.php:3574) in /home/crysm/public_html/diabetesbuddies/forum/Sources/Subs.php on line 4714

I did a complete reinstall of SMF and the new seo4smf and got exactly the same error.

Any ideas?

nope - exactly the same problem with totally clean install

[added]
just tried again, got this error before it bombed out

"Duplicate entry 'seo4smf_enable' for key 1
File: /home/crysm/public_html/diabetesbuddies/forum/Packages/temp/install.php
Line: 20"

.... if it makes any difference, I haven't got TPortal installed on this install

The first time, yes, but....

totally clean install
...means exactly that - deleted whole site (yes, absolutely everything) and started again - twice.

Still got same problem

Deleteing old site will not help you to clean your database, always but always UNINSTALL the mod. In your database on settings table you have some variables with seo4smf_. This variables need to be deleted.

I don't know else to say this.

You asked if I had uninstalled the old mod - I replies 'Yes, the first time' - that means I did uninstall the mod.
I then advised that I 'deleted the whole site (yes absolutely everything)' - 'everything' included the database. - completely gone.

I have just tried another install with a brand new domain and brand new database.

Same Problem.

FWIW, I also chose different table prefixes each time

Something not right somewhere - might be a hosting issue I guess - If I get time I'll try installing on a totally different server.

Tried completely new install on totally different server and domain.

Same problem.

Quote
Duplicate entry 'seo4smf_enable' for key 1
File: /home/wwwfood/public_html/forum/Packages/temp/install.php
Line: 20

That means
no question remains about 'did I uninstall'
no question remains about the 'old database' being present
no question remains about whether it is down to peculiarities of my server

Sadly, I now need to jump ship and use a different forum script.

The problem is because you don't uninstall correctly the mod. You made probably a fresh install on the same database and in database are the old settings. Anyway the answer is simple: just read this post http://www.webmasterstalks.com/seo-4-smf/hello-t881.0.html;msg5118#msg5118 ... and you will see the solution. You need to remove all variables from settings table what are starting with seo4smf_

Did you read my post properly before posting?

If so, please advise exactly how I can uninstall a mod that hasn't been installed.

One more time:
COMPLETELY NEW DOMAIN
COMPLETELY NEW DATABASE
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SERVER
COMPLETELY NEW INSTALL

I give up - you can't offer support if you aren't prepared to read what people post.

For your reference, there is no seo4smf_  variable in the settings table to be removed. You are paying too much attention to the words in the error message that you yourself coded, and not enough attention to other possible reasons that it might have been triggered.

Forget it  - I have now gone down the path of using a more mature forum solution, it was quicker.

My friend from your error:
Quote
Duplicate entry 'seo4smf_enable' for key 1
File: /home/wwwfood/public_html/forum/Packages/temp/install.php
Line: 20
is very clear. When you try to install again the mod install script cannot insert new data in "new" database. That error is not thrown by my script ... si thrown by SMF and that means the data is there. That error is coming from database. I'm sorry because we cannot help you out.

I'm happy you find a good solution. Good luck.

Look - it really is very simple - the data is NOT there - I am quite able to check in PHPMyAdmin and a new server, new domain, new install and new database does not leave much room for doubt.

Call me a liar by all means, but you WILL run into this problem again and it might be wise for you to try and understand the problem or delete this thread so that you don't end up looking foolish when it does.

4eyes; I think with respect you are out of order here.

You have to take some responsibility yourself.

if you read my first post you will see I had major SEO4SMF issues on a big, live forum; it crashed it once completely. Now it runs flawelessly and I would not be without it.

The point is this is a free mod with a high level of support notwithstanding its early days. I spent the time I needed to actually listen to the suggestions and implement them until they worked.

On one of my other forums it instaalled and worked first time in less than 5 minutes.

What GF told you is correct; unless you remove the previous install, and in particular that database entry, you will not get any further plain and simple.

I suggest you delete the database entry, restore a copy of your Sources directory and start again.

I understand you. I'm try to figure out what problem can be. I will not delete the thread I assume all mistakes and all problems what can appear.

A simple question: In your earlyer installations did you save your settings like xml and after that you upload the file with the new forum ?
