Those of you who use phpBB, you're probably aware that phpBB 3.0 beta is officially out.  When do you plan on upgrading your phpBB?  Also do you plan to go through documentation or test-install and try it out?

I do not have any immediate plan to upgrade.  I'm actually thinking about starting up a new forum and testing it out that way though.

I'm not sure when I'll upgrade, I just have way too many MODs in my forum and don't feel like making them all work with 3.0. I may try a test forum though.

Not necessarily.  Most mod authors aren't developing php 3.0.  In fact, they develop separately.  So, there is a good chance that some mods won't be upgrade at all.

Some are difficult but others are not.  From what I understand, phpBB is coded slightly differently.  If a mod just changes parts of code that have not changed, then porting is easy.  Otherwise, porting can become a bit tricky.

I would wait for it to become a stable script. Then I would try to see if I can upgrade my heavily modded forums. if not i will go on using the previous script.

I generally do not like using any script while it's still in beta, but I'm thinking about making an exception here.

1. I'd like to start up a new forum soon ..., hopefully by the end of the month.

2. I'd like to use phpBB again.

3. If I use phpBB, then I know that I'll need to upgrade to 3.0 very soon.  Using 2.0.x at this point is kind of counter-productive in the long term.

yes, agreed. since this release is likely to be quite secure and stable, it's better to go this route than to go for v2.

mods can be added in later. especially if you are a new site.

If you use the 3.0 beta, be warned.  The phpBB team has made it clear that they may not provide upgrade scripts from the betas.  So if you start a forum using 3.0 beta, you may be stuck using the 3.0 beta code forever.

If you create a forum using 2.0.21, the phpBB team has pledged that there will be an upgrade script that changes 2.0.21 into 3.0 final.  So it's not too bad to use version 2 now.

One thing I'd like to change right away is the forum style.  From what I understand, phpBB3.0 will change how styles are used.  So, if I use phpBB2.0.x and if I pick a style made for phpBB2.0.x now, there is a good chance that I won't be able to just move it over to phpBB3.0.x.  Kind of inconvenient ...
