A web directory is not a search engine and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords; instead, it lists web sites by category and subcategory. Most web directory entries are also not found by web crawlers but by humans.

Yes I agree with you totally. Means if you want to increase traffic or back links for your sites so there are lots of more option you can use it but only directory submission is only one provide the categories submission so everyone find out according to there need or requirement...

I also agree with sana...that only directory submission provide us a facility of category submission so anyone can easily find anything .

According to me,Directory sites are useful for introducing your newly sites into the search engines. It helps to improve the quality backllinks and traffics for your website.
